Slovakia 1000 Korun 2007 UNC

The Slovakia 1000 Korun banknote features a portrait of Andrej Hlinka (1864–1938), a key figure in modern Slovak history. As a Catholic priest and political leader, Hlinka played a major role in the national awakening and sociopolitical development of Slovakia in the early 20th century. His legacy is closely tied to the formation of Slovak identity and autonomy.

The reverse side of the note reflects places connected to Hlinka’s life and work. At the center is the Madonna Protector, inspired by a medieval wall painting from the Roman Catholic church in Sliače near Ružomberok. To the left is the Church of St. Andrew in Ružomberok, and within the Madonna’s cloak is a subtle depiction of Hlinka’s mausoleum.
